I Feel "Special"

It all started tonight at about 9:15 pm.

This isn't a huge exciting story, but it's a funny one, and maybe you had to be there...

Jill, Kellie, and I decided to go to a movie tonight. Jill looked up the time for the movie (9:20pm) and so I hung out the girls' house until it was time to go. I saw their beautifully decorated new room and talked to my auntie Julie and the girls. Then, before we knew it, it was time to go to the theatre. We left too late and got there with like 5 mins. to spare. By the time we got tickets and popcorn and such, it was pretty much 9:20, so we're like oh well, we'll just miss previews. However, when we got into the theatre, previews hadn't even started, so we were excited to have not missed a thing. We also noticed that we were the only ones in the theatre.

We got to chit-chatting and suddenly realized, about 10 mintues later, that the movie had not yet started. We just thought it was running late and kept on talking. About 5 mins. after that, I thought maybe we were in the wrong theatre. So, Jill went to check to make sure about that. As she was checking, Kellie checked her ticket stub. She comes to discover that the movie is not at 9:20, it is at 10:30!!!! We were like, oh wow, no way.

I am sitting there wondering why no one said anything. The ticket seller lady didn't find it strange that we were an hour early, neither did the ticket ripper guy, and he watched us go right into the theatre! They were probably like, wow, I guess they really wanna make sure they get a seat.

Then, as we're discussing what to do, a cleaner guy comes in the theatre. I felt the need to tell him what happened, while Kellie and Jill are giggling. I thought I should tell him, since I figured he was wondering what in the world we were doing in there. However, as I am explaining things to him, he just looked down, as if he couldn't hear me, and left! It was extremely akward, yet very funny.

We decided to go to Hy-Vee for a while. As we were leaving Chateau, I explained to two of the workers standing near-by what had happened. I wanted to make sure it was ok we came back and could bring our food and pop back in. They just looked at me like I was the biggest freak ever. They did not even crack a smile or grin at all at this crazy story. They were like stone-faced and just sorta nodded. Wow, people at Chateau should get sense of humor. Haha. This just made us three laugh even harder.

So, we went to Hy-Vee and came back to the movie with no problems. The theatre was packed, we thought it was funny that earlier we thought we'd be the only one's at the movie.......oh dear....how crazy.

Kellie and I are blaming Jill for this, haha, poor Jill. But it was funny. We felt super cool.

That is my story and now I must sleep. Goodnight.

Anti-blogger

Hello, I have been an anti-blogger lately. It's because I'm so busy. I'm not complaining, it's just true. If I had anytime to blog, it would be when I'm going to bed, and I would rather go to bed, so that's that. However, I am done with work for the week and have 3 days off so here ya go.

WORK:
I just finished my 3rd week on the floor. It's so crazy. I am a real nurse responsible for real patients. I am with a nurse preceptor until September, so I am learning all day long from her. I have gotten pretty good at the complicated massive online Mayo charting system, it's insane, but very organized. I am also pretty good at giving meds and ok at hooking up IVs, but need more practice there. I am responsible for assessing patients and noticing changes in them. Based on changes, good or bad, I have the responsibility to make changes in their plans of care. I am slowly getting the hang of things, but I realize that there is a ton a don't know. Pretty much everything I do is new to me and I am confused about it. Luckily my preceptor is patient and good at explaining things to me and letting me do things on my own. I have never been on an orthopedics floor before this job. It's a lot different from other floors in that most of the patient cannot walk or even move at all, since they just had hip surgery, broke spinal bones, or broke three bones and lost a leg, etc. So, it's a lot of lifting people and using co-workers for help. It's cool that there is such good team work on our floor. So, that's a little summary of my new working life. I got a paycheck and it's nice, pretty much equal to what I made in 6 weeks last summer, haha.

FINDING A HOME:
I have also been quite busy in this area. Chris and I have found a realtor (my old piano teacher) and she is awesome!!! First we looked at houses. Then we decided that the houses in our preferred price range mostly need a lot of fixing up, and we're not too excited about buying a place that instantly needs to be fixed. All houses in our range are old, old, old with sick old basements. Blah. So, now we're on the search for a townhome. We like the idea of buying something, if we can. We have looked at a bunch and have narrowed it down to a couple. We're going to look at them again tomorrow. The cool thing about townhomes is that we can get one much cheaper than a house, but they're acutally nicer. They probably don't increase as much in value over time as a house, but what can ya do.

WEDDING STUFF:
Um, I have a lot left to do in this area. I am going to try to do my registry this week. I have so much running through my head of all the wedding stuff to plan. It'll take a while....oof dah.

Welp, I think mom and are now going to Bed Bath and Beyond to do a little preliminary look at what I should register for. Also, she just announced to me that it's supposed to be 100 degrees on Mondy, wow. That should be nice. I'll have my own personal sauna in my car, fun fun.

I hope you all are having good summers! Hopefullly I'll see you soon!
Love, Brie

I heart orientation.

I know I need to update, but I keep putting it off. So, I'm behind now....

Okay well let's start with the nursing info.
I am in the midst of my second week of orientation. These first two weeks are just a lot of speakers and computer training. All the new nurses are together and we made one trip individually to our respective floors to meet our nursing preceptors. Mine preceptor's name is Erin and she is very nice, so that's good.

I had to do a lot of weird things last week, like choose a health insurance plan, designate Christopher Lewis as my beneficiary, plan for retirement, and realize I now have life insurance and lemme tell you, I am worth a whole lot, hahaaha. (just bein' silly)

It's been a long process, I feel like last week was as long as two weeks, we're getting very tired of these long 8 hours day. But we remind ourselves we're getting paid to listen to speakers, and then it doesn't seem so bad.

I am very impressed with the Mayo Clinic. It's beautiful for one thing. It's extremely well organized. It feels good to work somewhere were I know there are tons of people who really know what's goin' on. The place is amazing. They also treat us new peeps like roalty practically. I feel very welcome and happy to be working there. I have not met a single un-kind or even slightly rude employee in the whole place at any time I have been there. There was even a "Welcome Brianna Hemmer RN" sign up on my floor!

I have to park at Walmart and ride a shuttle to St. Mary's. It takes a lot of senority to actually get to park anywhere downtown, but I don't mind, it probably even saves me time this way. I feel so weird walking around downtown in my navy blue scrubs. I don't feel like I'm "one of them", but I guess I am. I'll get used to it in a few years, heehee.

I am starting to not feel so incredibly lost. One of the first days we got a bus tour downtown and by St. Mary's. It was kind of funny, a tour, in the town I've spent my whole life in, but I gotta tell ya I felt like a tourist. The area by the clinic is still confusing to me, but not as much.

I met a girl in my orientation that is starting on the same floor as me, her name is Anne and she is also very nice. I'm glad to be starting on the floor (next week!) with someone else who is new. I have my very own locker and mailbox, cool huh. I also have a badge and a name card swipey thingy that lets me in places here and there.

Hmm..well, I shall tell you more later I suppose, I don't wanna make this too long.

Aside from nuring, I went to the Minnesota Zoo with Chris and two of his sisters, Katie (24) and Laura (10). It was a lot of fun, I love zoos. It was crazy to see girrafes and animals like that that you don't ever see around here, obviously. We skipped the "farm" portion of the zoo. Seeing chickens, cows, and horses just wasn't very thrilling, heehee.

I also went to some movies, such as "Click" with Brita, "The Devil Wears Prada" with my mama, and something else too, with Cara, I just can't remember what...hmmm...well anyhoo, I've done some other things too, but I can't remember.

Now I am enjoying that fact that tomorrow is the 4th and I dont' have to work, YES! It's my holiday off, heehee. So, I will be at Gran's, with my lovely family and then we shall see the fireworks!!!

Love you all!
