No, I will not follow Hitler!

Hi, I thought I'd shock myself and update. Whoa.

So, today was interesting. My nursing class went to NURSE'S DAY ON THE HILL. Which means a bunch of nurses go to the capitol and lobby for nursing related issues like trying to get rid of mandatory overtime. To my surprise however, the whole day was basically about universal health care for our country. The people speaking were very influential about this and they made universal health care sound great, therefore, my classmates all started cheering, chanting, singing, yes singing, and holding up signs. And I, as usual, was not in agreement with everyone else. I need to know more about things, especially things I'm pretty sure I don't agree with, before I decide to chant about them and make signs.

As I watched my classmates cheer and hollar about something they really don't know much about, the word Hitler came to mind. Lol, sorry, not funny. But I always wonder how all those Germans followed Hitler when he was so mean and crazy, but I saw today how easily people can follow things just cuz it sounds good or because whoever is talking about it is a great and enthusiastic speaker. I know today and the whole Hitler thing are quite different, but you get the point. So yeh, it was interesting. I did not take a sign, or a button, or sing the creepy universal health care song to the theme of Roll Out The Barrel, so corny, wow.

So, my friend Tiffany and I said, ok, enough of this craziness, and we explored the capitol building. This led us to an undergroud hallway which took us to another building. We eventually got outside and found ourselves like 3 blocks away from the capitol. We thought that was quite amusing. Before all this occured we all got to have lunch. So, a few of my friends and I were randomly searching St. Paul on foot for a restaurant. Finally, after no luck, we asked someone who directed us to a mall that had a small food court, it was dece. After this my jaw started to ache quite badly (it's still not back to normal) so I was greatful that it was soon time to go. I slept all the way to Wabasha.

Tonight I did lots of things, I did homework, I read my bible, I talked to Dad, Casey, and Heather and Eric.
And of course I talked to my amazing fiance, of whom I am so very proud and so very honored to be engaged to :)

Then, Casey and I went to McDonalds and had a lil' "shnackie" Then we watched the floor near us get swept three times in a row, by different people, hahhahh, talk about a bad use of their time. Maybe Casey and I were so interesting that they had to keep finding ways to come to where we were sitting, yeh, that's probably why. Then I took lots of pictures with Hut's camera and she appreciated it, a lot. Now, I am drinking old pop and considering watching part of a movie, even though I have to get up in about 8 hours.

I feel very good about today. I feel like I leared a lot today about a lot of things and I was very productive and even got to see my roomies for a while.

I am only sad cuz I missed Brice and Megan's calls and it's too late to call them back, although, knowing the two of them, they'll be up for hours!

MMMkay, love you all dearly

Bye friends.

Spring Break and Such

Hello all.

Well I would like to tell you about my spring break. I will be very brief because people see a long blog and get overwhelmed and never read it, at least a lot of people do.

Mom took me to Chicago!!!! It was a blast and I'd do it again. We shopped all over, saw Blue Man Group, the muscial Wicked, and Lake Michigan. Blue Man and Wicked were awesome! We took taxis, went to the 90th something floor of the John Hancock Building to look out, ate Chinese and Italian food, and went to a late movie. The lake tried to eat my sandals, we got dissed by a lady at Saks Fifth Avenue cuz she didn't think we were rich enough to be there, and we sneaked in a picture at Tiffanys & Co. It was very very fun!!! Thank so much for taking me mom! The drive wasn't so bad, we passed through 4 toll things where you have to pay $ to pass! We also went to a cool outlet mall outside of Chicago. I wanna go again! I'd have to say that Wicked was the hightlight and I didn't even read the book.

After this my spring break took a quick and painful downhill. I got my wisdom teeth out! I didn't think it would be as bothersome as it was. Well, I mean, the actual procedure was fine, zero pain, but then I was a chipmunk for like four days, which is just kinda a distubing/achy feeling. My mouth hurt semi-bad during that time too. Then when it was just starting to get better, I got a dry socket in one of them. So, I had to go back to the hosptial and experience the most painful couple minutes of my life, seriously, no pain has ever been worse, not really even close. The dude squirted water down the hole where my tooth was, yes squirted water, that's all, but it felt like he was hammering a large stick or hunk of wood down there. I was like, um, "was that a shot?" and he's like no, I just squirted water. I guess the pain can be explained by the fact that the water was squirted onto an open bone and nerves down in the socket. So, yeh, then he put a gauze down there with pain killing stuff on it and told me I'd come back once more to do it all again......"super". However, when I came back a had a new doctor who was extrememly kind and told me he'd be careful and it like didn't hurt at all, granted my tooth was a little better by this time, but still he was very nice. Now, I squirt salt water down there on my own and hopefully the pain that is still there, will be done soon.

However, I have another problem. I jaw won't open. It sorta will but not good enough and it hurts like crapola. The doctor said to stetch it, massage it, and put warm towels on it. I'm stretching it like crazy because he said if I don't I could lose mobility in it and I'm not losing mobility in my jaw. Because at this rate, I will never get to bite into hamberger again.

Ok, do this, see how many fingers you fit in your mouth, like stack them up on each other vertically. Casey and Heather can do four, I can do two and it hurts!!!!!

To add to the fun of my pain, I had my first two capstone clinicals this past week: Monday 7p to 7a and Tuesday 7p to 7a (which got cut short) So yeh, staying up all night is not enjoyable. I was very confused. I slept during the day and went back at night and thought it was morning. Horrible! I have to do it agian too, eh, blah. Oh well, it's almost over.

This weekend has been fun, Friday Casey and I went to Culv's and the movie Failure to Launch which was good. She also forced me to watch Son in Law, and I actually loved it! Saturday we watched our WSU basketball boys win the NCAA division II national championship! It was amazing, I am so proud :) wowee.

Then, last night Kellie and Jill came and slept over, it was kinda a spur-of-the-moment thing. We went to Erbs and watched Potter IV. Today I showed them campus and Garvin Heights and we went to Culvs. I am so not going out for supper, too much lately!!! Me have no monies!!!!

So, the girls left and now I've been doing homework. At 6, I have a group meeting. What shall I do until then, hmmm, I could start some stuff due next week......nah.

Okay, love you all!!! Have a good week, it's almost April! Yay, summer is coming!

Love, Brianna

Hi Peeps

Hello. I am a blog slacker this week, but better late then never...

Last weekend was very fun!!!

On Friday I hung out with Casey and Amie and we went to Chula, mmm, there's nothin' better. We also watched Yours, Mine, and Ours, cute movie. Then I came home to see my fiance after he got done working. We went to the house of his math friend and we stayed there for quite awhile talking to him and his girlfriend, they were very nice people! Then Chris and I had some pop at Perkins, cuz it was the only place still open for the crazies like us.

Saturday morning Mom and I went to Cozy and Whit's house (friends of the family) They taught mom and I how to make Lefse! My family (mom's side) has been having lefse at Christmas and such holidays since I was born, so my mom become very interested in how to make it from stratch and I was too. So, we made it from stratch, who knew the main ingredient is potatoes? cool. Once you make the dough you ball it up and roll out in the balls into about 14inch circles and then put then on a big lefse pan and they cook pretty quick. Then we ate some warm, which I thought was really good. Next, Mom and I went to Stewartville so I could see my new cousin Grace! Holly (her mom) let my hold Grace instantly, what a little cutie she is, aww. She was so good too. Cara came over a little later to get her maid of honor dress, heehee and we hung out for a bit before I went to Culv's with my fam and to my grandma Hemmer's 70th b-day party. After that I went to Cara's house to watch the Gilmore Girls I missed last week and we went in the hot tub for like 2 hours! Fun fun fun.

Sunday morning Mom, Dad, Chris, and I went to sunday school and then to church and it was good of course. Later, it was just Gav and I and we went to Wendy's for supper right before I left for Winona. Before I came back here though, I felt the need to go to Old Navy and I bought one shirt to wear when it gets nicer out, but it's actually pretty nice out today.

This week is going slow, probably because I want it to be spring break cuz I'm going to Chicago with Mom! whoot whoot. Yesterday I felt extremely blah. I threw up twice in the morning, good to know huh? And my head hurted real bad! So, I did not go to clinical, uh oh! Today I'm not doing much. I'm at work now and I have class 1-3. I should do homework after that. Thursday I have clinical 6-2 and Friday I have a few classes then I'm home free!!!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week and here are some pictures I took from my mom's blog, so if you see her blog, you've seen these, but we had the same weekend, so I guess that's how it goes!!! Thanks mama.

stick. I guess I didn't roll the dough to her liking.

happy to be making lefse.

Grace Mae

Oh, I'm so excited. My second cousin Holly (my mom's first cousin) had her second baby a few hours ago! She had a baby girl and they named her Grace Mae. She's 8 lbs 7 ounches and 20 and 3/4" long. My grandma said she was born at 6:28. I got up at 6:20 this morning, so while I taking a shower, she was born, heehee. I don't think they read my blog, but congratulations to Holly and Jake and to Hannah, who's now a big sister!

Something er other and whatnot and so forth

Hello all. I am studying for a test that is tomorrow which I haven't really studied for until now, yikes. But, I need a break. So, I am inspired by Kelsey to tell you all about my clinical today. My story isn't crazy like hers, but it was fun.

Today was my first Pediatrics clinical. I got an eight year old girl. I won't tell ya much about her, since I'm not supposed to, other than that she was so cute and funny. The poor girl has been in the hospital so many times for a problem that will never go away for her, yet she was a happy child. She informed me that today is "opposite day" and she stuck to it. Everything I asked her she answered with the opposite answer of the truth and I fell for it like everytime. She thought she was pretty funny everytime she tricked me. I got to take her into the play room for awhile. She cannot walk right now, so I wheeled her over in her massive bed. We played a few games and colored. She watched Mulan and I learned from a nurse who was in the room when Mulan was on that Donny Osmand sings many of the songs on the movie. I thought that was a fun fact for the day; I never knew, and I always liked the Mulan songs. I thought of my aunt Jodi, cuz she really like Donny!!!

So, it was a successful first Peds clinical. It wasn't overly challenging, but it was good.
Hmm...what else can I say... Hmm..did I write about last weekend? Well, I shall briefly.

I cannot remember the order of the things I did, so I'll just list them:

*went to Walk the Line with cuzzin Megan, it was very good I thought
*made cookies
*helped Chris move to his new home
*went to Gav's b-ball game, they won!
*met with my preceptor at St. Mary's for my capstone and found out that the majority of my shifts will be overnights! wow.
*had a yummy breakfast at Canadian Honkers with mama.
*went to a marriage seminar with Chris, Kelsey, and Jeff, given by Les and Leslie Parrott; It was extremely good!!!
*went to the state gymnastics meet in St. Paul to see Kellie on vault and floor! good job cuzzin.
*went to sunday school and church
*ate lunch at the mall with the peeps (I saw Jenny and Gran, fun!)
*went to Ryan's b-day party for a while, then left to come back to Winona Sunday night

Now, I'm here and I want it to be the weekend. This weekend I'm going to be learning how to make lefse from scratch from Cozy and Whit with mom, whoot!

Ok, wish me luck on taking a test I know nothing for!

Sincerely, Brianna M. Hemmer
